Lawsuit claims former Dexatrim ingredient may be connected to Cape Coral woman's stroke.

At age 40 Pamela Hill, of Cape Coral, FL suffered a hemorrhagic stroke that left her partially paralyzed and unable to remember certain words. Just days before her stroke she started taking Dexatrim for weight loss but she never connected the two events until the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a report in late 2000 that there was a connection between products containing PPA and hemorrhagic stroke. Hill is seeking damages from Chattem Inc., maker of Dexatrim products, and its affiliates totaling in the millions.

There are currently hundreds of lawsuits pending across the nation by men and women who claim that PPA-containing Dexatrim caused them to suffer hemorrhagic strokes. Chattem Inc. no longer uses PPA in its Dexatrim products and is now working to create a class-action settlement to resolve these cases. Read Article
