What is PPA?

Phenylpropanolamine (PPA) is a chemical that was used in scores of cold and cough medications, nasal decongestants and appetite suppressant and weight loss products - both over-the-counter (OTC) and prescription. PPA was one of the most common ingredients in non-prescription medications in this country, with literally billions of doses consumed each year. See List of products.

PPA has been found to increase the likelihood of both hemorrhagic and ischemic stroke, particularly for women. See What is a stroke?
